Windows can be fitted into timber frames or directly into masonry using a sub frame. The Universal Casement Window System conforms generally to BS 4873:1986 specification for aluminium alloy windows and when glazed with a suitable double glazed unit will conform to the requirements of Document L for Thermal Efficiency.
Extruded aluminium profiles are made from aluminium alloy 6063T6 to
BS EN 755 Part 9. Insulation is by the A-Therm thermal barrier process. Profiles can also be supplied unfilled (non-thermal). The aluminium profiles may be finished to the following specifications:
• Anodised to BS1615 or BS3987, Grade AA25 in Silver
• Stoved powder organic coating to BS EN 12206 - 12004 (BS6496) in White, and a range of RAL colours (to special order)
• In Mill Finish (uncoated aluminium)
Frame profiles are mitre cut at 45 degrees for assembly with extruded aluminium cleats and securely jointed mechanically. Mullion and transom bars are square cut and fixed to the frame with stainless steel self tapping screws driven into screw ports extruded into the profiles. All joints to be sealed against water entry.
Polypropylene backed woven pile weather stripping is set in undercut grooves in the frame profiles.
Glass shall conform to the requirements of BS6262 for type and thickness and is set dry against rubber or extruded vinyl gaskets in the external glazing bead and retained by wedge gaskets fitted to the interior. Drainage slots must be provided to the external face of the frames.
Profiles and gaskets will accommodate 4mm to 6mm single thickness glass and double glazed units of nominal 20, 24 and 28mm thickness.
